D&W U18 Girls unlucky loss to Somerset

The opening round of the U18's Girls County Championship saw the girls of the twin counties travelling north to Oxfordshire where they, along with the other counties in the group were hosted by Banbury RFC. This saw over 260 girls playing rugby throughout the day in the glorious autumn sunshine, supported by their enthusiastic families and friends.

The first matches of the day were played by our U15 and U18 girls who played Somerset simultaneously on neighbouring pitches. The U18's game was played in good spirits but was a game of "two halves".

The twin counties opened the scoring in the first couple of minutes with a try from Jess Berry, with a second coming 5 minutes later from Hannah Wilson. Somerset then upped their game and and took advantage of two Dorset and Wilts sin-bins to score three tries in quick succession. The final D&W try was scored by Alicia Sutcliffe, but Somerset was in their stride and scored another 3 tries and 2 conversions.

Dorset and Wilts never gave up, but couldn't quite make it across the line. The final score was Dorset & Wilts 15, Somerset 34.

The coaches were immensely proud of all the girls for their fantastic team work and determination. They look forward to getting together with the squad ahead of the long trip to Camborne in Cornwall on Sunday 19th October for the game against Gloucestershire.
