SituationThe third Dorset & Wilts Girls Super Cluster Train & Play event will be held at North Dorset Rugby Football Club, Longbury Hill Lane, Gillingham SP8 5SYon Sun 20th January 2019


The aim of the event is to facilitate County opportunities for players at clubs and schools to attend regardless of numbers to gain enrichment opportunities through training and game-based play. There will again be a lot of girls who are new to the game or stepping up into their first season of girls only rugby and may/will make mistakes please be patient and courteous and respect the core values of rugby! Those who have fully established, or functionally stronger teams please be aware some opponents may not be at your level, so please keep the best interests of all the girls involved in mind. Winning at all costs is not the be all and end all.


Training will take place at North Dorset RFC on the sports pitches and will begin from 12:00 hrs for U13, U15 & U18. Players are requested to arrive 30 mins prior to start time to receive a brief and familiarise themselves with the setup and pitches to undertake activities.

Game Play. All players will have an opportunity to play in a game at various age grades. U13’s U15 & U18 will have their own pitch and will have a series of training games.

Timings. Training will commence from 12:00 to 13:00 with games from 13:00 to 14:30 splitting into individual age groups.

There will be activities to promote and enrich player’s fundamental rugby and decision-making skills through qualified coaches.  Club coaches are encouraged to take an active part to maximise feedback to players and sharing of good practice between each other. Teams will be put together to maximise opportunities to be fully involved.

Rules and eligibility. All girls from schools and clubs from Dorset & Wilts and other previously agreed clubs outside of this are eligible to attend the event.

Transport. Transport to and from the event will be at personal expense, efforts should be made to car share.

Insurance and Affiliation. All players must be registered under their club or school insurance. Additional personal insurance should be considered.

Match Officials. Dorset & Wilts will endeavour to arrange for RFU match officials where possible to cover all games.  Referees will provide a brief on rules at the beginning of the games. If unavailable club coaches are to facilitate this activity.

Equipment. Participants should be in possession of personal playing equipment and are requested to arrive changed for the event due to very limited changing areas. Players are reminded that mouth guards are a mandatory piece of protective equipment.

Accommodation and Messing. There is no accommodation available. All participants are to bring their own food and drinks to sustain them for the day.  There will be some basic refreshments that can be purchased with snacks. Food will be provided at the end for a small charge.

Clubs are encouraged to take photographs at the event to use back at their own clubs to promote opportunities.  If any children are not to have photographs taken this is be confirmed with Brett Bader prior to the event.  Photographs will be used to promote the event on Dorset & Wilts social media platforms and future literature.  Schools and Clubs are welcome to bring club feather flags to be used in photographs.

All coaches and volunteers are to ensure all their players from their clubs and schools are in possession of their medications.  All clubs are to have a trained first aider with kit supporting their players at the event.  There will be additional first aiders at the event.  All first aiders are to have undertaken the Headcase online learning package within the last 12 months.

Everyone is to be vigilant and adhere to high standards towards all involved.  An Event Safeguarding Officer will be announced on the day.  If a club wish to nominate a volunteer to fulfil this role this would be very helpful.  All clubs and schools are return a register of players to support final planning.

Club/School Return Form is to be completed and returned to both Brett Bader & Nick Mattravers ( electronically and an updated version is to be handed in on arrival at the event.

The event proposes to be an opportunity to enrich players and club / school coaches with ideas, skills and knowledge. It will allow more networking between clubs and schools to create training and playing opportunities even with low numbers to support player development.
